Keeping Your Home Safe From Theft

Having a sense of security at home is why we call it our “safe space”, but unfortunately that might not always be the case. The FBI reports that one in every 36 homes in the US suffer a theft.

Here are some tips to keep you safe from theft, burglary, or robbery:

Outdoor Lighting

Having outdoor lighting on during the nighttime is likely to deter the intruder away. If you’re traveling, put your lights on a timer or ask your neighbors to intermittently park in your driveway. Give your home a lived-in look and feel.

Security Cameras

Get visibility on the happenings at your house with a home security system. Burglars are three times more likely to target properties that don’t use a security system.

Dogs

We all love an excuse to get a new pup, but they are more than cute! Barking dogs are likely to scare off an intruder. A motion sensor that makes an audible alarm is a good replacement if you are not looking to add fur to your home.

Upgrade Door Locks

Installing new, more efficient locks for all doors and windows. Also, the screws that come with your lock are likey under one inch in length. Replacing these with four inch screws will make it much harder for an intruder to kick in the doors.
