Snowmobile Quick Tips

Anybody who knows me knows that my favorite winter activity is coming back inside where it’s warm. I have noticed that quite a few of our clients post on social media that they like snowmobiling. While that’s not my cup of tea, I do know a lot about insuring them. So, I figured it would be good to review some things to keep in mind when insuring your sled.

Review your policy

The same way that you would check the oil and gas in your sled, check your insurance policy to make sure it has the coverage you think it does. It’s best to know that in the event that you roll the sled, hit another vehicle, or worst of all hit someone, that you’ll be protected.

You probably need comprehensive & collision

Comprehensive and collision coverage, sometimes referred to as “full coverage” will help pay for the repairs or even to replace your vehicle in the event that something happens. Quite frankly, many people are surprised how inexpensive the coverage is!

A common misconception that I run into frequently are clients that think their sled, if stored or parked in their garage, will be covered by their home insurance. Unfortunately, it is not. The comprehensive and collision coverage on your snowmobile policy pays regardless of where it’s located.

Liability Protection

In many locations, liability coverage is required to ride in parks and on public trails. This should be part of the most basic snowmobile policy. Liability (bodily injury & property damage) pays for the damages you cause to someone or something. This coverage will protect your family’s financial future in the event of a lawsuit regarding an incident with your sled.
